Hanns Eisler aus Gender-Perspektive

The anthology Hanns Eisler aus der Gender-Perspektive (Hanns Eisler from a Gender Perspective) opens up new avenues for exploring one of the most politically and aesthetically influential composers of the 20th century. Based on current issues in gender studies, the book examines Eisler's work, his working methods, and his networks from the perspective of gender roles, artistic collaboration, and social responsibility.

The contributions—written by international authors—range from Eisler's early works and his environment in Vienna and Berlin to his years in exile and his reception after 1945. The focus is not only on Eisler's texts and compositions, but also on the previously little-noticed contributions of women from his circle.

With its combination of music-historical analysis, cultural-political reflection, and contemporary gender debate, this volume shows how Hanns Eisler's thinking and work can be reinterpreted—as a polyphonic interweaving of music, politics, and gender.
