About us

Wolke is an independent publisher of books about music.

Our focus is on new music, jazz, sound art and theory - on those edges of listening where thought and practice, past and present, language and sound meet.

We have been publishing volumes of essays, monographs, conversations, artistic self-understandings, reprints and documentary material for 45 years. We publish books by and about composers, musicians, activists, theorists and listeners - curious, critical and open to formal experiments with the book as a medium.

What unites us is our belief in the power of publications as places of exchange: between art and science, archive and stage, scene and public. We work closely with our authors, accompanying projects from idea to presentation - and attach great importance to careful design and high-quality production.

Our books can be found in bookshops, concert halls and libraries, at festivals, at one of our many book stands or here in our webshop - and perhaps soon in your home too.

Team & contributors

Wolke is an independent publishing house - run by a small, dedicated team that works in close collaboration with authors, editors, artists, designers and friends. We don't think of publishing as a corporation, but as a platform: for voices that need to be heard - and for books that want to make a difference.

Patrick Becker

Publishing management, editing, design, communication, production, distribution

Patrick is Managing Director and is responsible for the publisher's entire program - from strategic orientation and the conception of individual titles to production, public relations and long-term development. As a doctor of musicology, journalist and librettist, he moves between theory, practice and cultural mediation.

Internship at wolke

Wolke is regularly supported by interns who think, work and provide new ideas. Without them, many things would not be possible.

Lisa Kriegsheim and Elisabeth Mrzik are currently supporting our publishing work.

If there are any current tenders, you will be informed here, in the newsletter and on Instagram.
