Xiao Fu

Kommunikation und Technologie in dem Tanztheaterstück enactment::interchange

What do music, dance, technology, Far Eastern philosophy, cognitive science, and psychoanalysis have in common? In her book about her dance theater piece enactment::interchange, Hamburg-based composer and multimedia artist Xiao Fu, who was born in China, provides a fascinating overview of the historical and epistemological conditions that shaped her piece, which was created in dialogue with two Chinese women: writer Jane Wang from Shanghai and Paris-based choreographer Qing Wang. She combines approaches consisting of different discourses, biographical details, and descriptions of technical arrangements. A major focus is on the content of Eastern philosophy, which distrusts words and seeks truths in the uncommunicable (or rather in the non-verbally communicable). This finds its psychoanalytical counterpart in the phenomena of transference and countertransference, as well as in the concept of embodiment, which is widespread in cognitive science. In her book, Fu shows how she succeeds in depicting the subliminal, the barely visible, the unspeakable through the use of interactive technologies in dance, music, and video.
