About us

Wolke is an independent publisher of books about music.

Our focus is on new music, jazz, sound art and theory - on those edges of listening where thought and practice, past and present, language and sound meet.

We have been publishing volumes of essays, monographs, conversations, artistic self-understandings, reprints and documentary material for 45 years. We publish books by and about composers, musicians, activists, theorists and listeners - curious, critical and open to formal experiments with the book as a medium.

What unites us is our belief in the power of publications as spaces for exchange: between art and academia, archives and the stage, the creative scene and the public sphere. We work closely with our authors, guiding projects from concept to presentation—and place great emphasis on meticulous design and high-quality production.

Our books can be found in bookshops, concert halls and libraries, at festivals, at one of our many book stands or here in our webshop - and perhaps soon in your home too.
