We are celebrating 45 years of Wolke Verlag

For 45 years, Wolke Verlag has been the leading publisher of books on new music, jazz, free improvisation, and music theory. Founded in 1980 by a student collective, Wolke Verlag is now internationally renowned for its German and English-language books and is a place of exchange between art and science, archives and the stage, the scene and the public. With almost 400 titles in our constantly growing program, we shape discourse, stimulate new ideas, and reflect on existing ones.

This calls for a celebration: on December 12, we would like to raise a glass with you at Franz-Mehring-Platz 1 in FMP1 in Berlin to celebrate music and art.

To this end, we have put together a diverse program that reflects the diversity of artistic voices presented in our publishing program.

We are delighted that Robert Lippok is presenting his work Material , which he previously performed as part of the Festival of Future Nows at the Neue Nationalgalerie in 2025.

In a concert talk, violist Anna Jurriaanse will discuss the solo pieces composed for her and provide insight into compositional processes.

To mark Helmut Lachenmann's 90th birthday this year and in keeping with the season, we are presenting the Berlin premiere of Alejo Moguillansky's film La Vendedora de Fósforos ( 2017). An art film that blends documentary and fiction, in which the Argentine premiere of Lachenmann's The Little Match Girl plays a decisive role.

Kristoffer Cornils will present the broad oeuvre of Japanese noise artist Merzbow, who can now look back on 45 years of artistic activity, in a listening session.

The evening will be accompanied by culinary delights from Lautaro Valdes of El Cultrún e.V., who will provide us with vegetarian and non-vegetarian empanadas.

We look forward to seeing you! Admission is free.

Robert Lippok: Material (2025)

For years, Robert Lippok has been developing a practice in which compositional thinking intersects with spatial and material processes. Material comes into play where Lippok continues his exploration of sound, outdoor space, and architecture—in line with works such as the sound installation Feld at the Venice Biennale in 2004.

Lippok first presented the underlying concert format at the Festival of Future Nows at the Neue Nationalgalerie in 2025.

The resulting sound field works with varying sound density and treats sound as an object that can be spatially positioned, shifted, and reweighted. This creates zones of friction and permeability. Dissolving a specific form, score, or motif means opening up a process—a procedure reminiscent of the concept of musique concrète, in which the material itself becomes the agent of action, while its internal relationships are continuously reconfigured.

Robert Lippok is a Berlin-based composer and artist working at the intersection of sound, space, and technology. Since the early 1980s, he has been shaping experimental music with projects such as Ornament und Verbrechen and To Rococo Rot. His solo works—including those on raster-noton/raster-media—combine electronic composition with architectural and spatial thinking.

Today, Lippok works on site-specific installations, performances, and transdisciplinary projects that span club culture, ecology, urban research, and media art. His current releases include Uncontrollable Thoughts, a joint release with Anushka Chkheidze on Morr Music. His work has been presented internationally, including at the Venice Biennale, MUTEK Mexico, Villa Romana in Florence, and MACA Beijing. He also curated Situations, an exhibition realized in 2025 as part of the Darmstadt Summer Courses.

Anna Jurriaanse

Anna Jurriaanse is a violist from the Netherlands who is currently completing a master's degree at the Berlin University of the Arts. In addition to her work as an academician with the German Symphony Orchestra, Anna is a freelance musician and plays in various orchestras and chamber music ensembles.

She writes the following about her program, which she will present on December 12:

For my final concert in February, I wanted to do something special and not just play the standard repertoire for viola. Inspired by the title of Morton Feldman's "The Viola in my Life," I came up with the idea for a project called "The Composers in my Life." During my studies in The Hague and Berlin, I met many wonderful, inspiring composers. So I asked each of them to write a miniature for solo viola for me to turn into a series. I can perform these individually or as a cycle. Some composers created their miniatures freely, others in close collaboration, and still others were inspired by a simple exchange of ideas. As a "pure" instrumentalist, it is very exciting to see these miniatures come into being up close and to be part of this process. As the series is still in progress, I have so far received some finished miniatures and some drafts. I am delighted to be able to show you where I currently stand in this process!"

Alejo Moguillansky: La Vendedora de Fósforos (2017) (original version with English subtitles)

In the midst of all this, Marie and Walter are trying to survive with their daughter.
