Begegnungen mit Barbara Heller

This first book about the multifaceted musical personality Barbara Heller documents the musician's path from her beginnings to the present day. Barbara Heller's life is characterized by her extensive compositional, pedagogical and bibliographical work as well as her contacts and collaborations with a wide variety of personalities from the fields of music, fine arts, philosophy and sociology. A large number of texts give a voice to people who met Barbara Heller and who walked or are still walking a part of their lives together with her. In addition, texts and letters from the pianist and composer's diaries tell of her time as a post-war musician as well as her family situation and her involvement in music research for the women's movement. Photos, pictures, drawings, documents and autographs complement the contemporary testimonies.

The form chosen by the editor, Ulla Levens, of the text-image collage - similar to a kaleidoscope - constantly opens up new perspectives for the reader and reveals interesting connections. The book also contains a complete list of the composer's works, her bibliography and a CD with recordings of her works.

Barbara Heller is still active as a composer today and almost all of her works have been published. Many of them have been recorded on CD by renowned performers. In 2005, Barbara Heller was awarded the Aloysia Assenbaum

Memorial Prize. This book is a tribute to Barbara Heller, who turned seventy in 2006.
