Die durchbohrte Zeit

Texte zu Bernd Alois Zimmermann

Conductor Peter Hirsch joined the Frankfurt Opera, directed by Michael Gielen, in 1979, working with him on the 1981 production of "Soldaten" (Soldiers), among other works, and later became principal conductor there.
His concert programs seek to trace the lines of tradition between the classical repertoire and modern music. In addition to the Viennese School, his focus is on post-war music, in particular Luigi Dallapiccola, Luigi Nono, and Bernd Alois Zimmermann. He conducted the world premieres of Nono's "Risonanze erranti" and, posthumously in 2006, the 1951 fragment of "Fučik," which he also edited. His recording of "Prometeo" received the German Record Prize in 2005.
Since the Frankfurt "Soldaten," he has championed the work of Bernd Alois Zimmermann in countless performances, radio programs, and award-winning CD recordings. In 2001, he conducted the posthumous premiere of the early "Märchensuite" in Berlin. He is also responsible for the rediscovery and first recording of the original version of the "Sinfonie in einem Satz." The present texts shed light on important aspects of Zimmermann's worldview based on their deposits and manifestations in his work.
