Different Voices: Irish Music and Music in Ireland offers new insights into contemporary Irish music. In twelve interviews with composers living in Ireland or of Irish descent aged between 26 and 80, the book sheds light on the compositional and stylistic diversity of Irish music. In the introduction, Benjamin Dwyer provides an overview of the history of Irish music from 1700 to the present day and examines how historical and socio-political factors such as English colonial rule, Irish nationalism, religious and state censorship and globalization have shaped the course of Irish music.
