Facets of the Second Modernity

Second Modernism aims to offer a viable alternative to the postmodern musical and cultural self-understanding, to show solidarity with the historical avant-garde and classical modernism, to focus on reflection, to point out future perspectives - and at the same time to give composers of the younger and middle generation a platform on which they can articulate their goals.

In recent years, there have been clear signs of the presence of this concept in musical discourse: at major festivals, in theoretical texts and in discussions. What this means in concrete musical, aesthetic and compositional terms unfolds in the essays by ten composers who each analyze their own work:
