Die Musik von Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf

Claus-Steffen Mahnkopf occupies a prominent position in the discourse on contemporary music. Yet too little attention is still paid to his music, which refuses conventional categorization. Despite the fruitfulness and diversity of his compositional output, it is still predominantly the theoretician Mahnkopf who attracts commentary. This often corresponds to a distorted perspective on his work. Anyone who knows his work from living experience knows that its "complexity" is primarily a poetic one, which reacts extremely flexibly to the most diverse sources of inspiration and problems. Mahnkopf's constructivism is merely an attempt to find a universalistic language in this open aesthetic universe. This volume attempts to open up appropriate perspectives in a series of work portraits. Not only theorists, but also performers and fellow composers show how Mahnkopf creates new forms of aesthetic experience.
