Stilkritische Untersuchungen zum Jazz der 60er Jahre

New edition of the standard work on free jazz, published in 1975 and only available in English for the last few years.

Although first considered, the new edition of this classic on free jazz was not revised. This "book about a living art written with little historical distance and equipped with a good deal of personal commitment is - like the art itself - a document of its time". 30 years of history have not brought to light any significant findings that would allow the music of these "creative energy producers" of the 60s to appear in a new light today. On the contrary, jazz history has confirmed the statements made here. Only Anthony Braxton - "not treated well" here, but meanwhile rehabilitated by works by Wilson (1993) and Heffley (1996) - would have required a correction. But even such a misjudgment is part of a contemporary document...
