Hear and Now

"Of course, one would prefer to talk about the book in an animated way, jumping from the absurd to the core and back again, paraphrasing theories, stirring in ideas, shining and stumbling, repeating oneself and losing a thought. Just like that, improvise. But even typing slows down the momentum. What's more, Peter Niklas Wilson's book is too dense, too concentrated, too widely scattered in its musical aspects to be reviewed adequately in the moment. Or, in other words: "Hear and Now – Thoughts on Improvised Music" is already one of the standard works on the subject. It is unrivalled in the German language, apart from the long out-of-print German edition of English guitarist Derek Bailey's book, "Improvisation – Kunst ohne Werk" (Improvisation – Art Without Work) ...".
