Texte zur Musik

Peter Ruzicka from 1998 to 2008: Artistic Director of the Salzburg Festival, composer of two full-length operas and numerous orchestral and chamber music works, successful conductor and cultural manager. This collection of 22 essays by Peter Ruzicka presents his musical writings from the last ten years. Public speeches and lectures, as well as monographic treatises and specialist articles, reflect Ruzicka's compositional standpoint and address aesthetic, cultural-historical, and cultural-political topics.

For the first time, the subject of cultural management is also documented in its entirety, covering the last 15 years. In particular, aspects of cultural economics and cultural law are addressed, and the professions of composer and music critic as well as the practice of musical theater are examined. The writings in "Aspekte zu Salzburg" reflect Ruzicka's cultural-political and music-historical reflections on the Salzburg Festival and the institution of opera. Further essays provide insights into Ruzicka's examination of the work of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart in the course of the Mozart Year 2006. In addition, the concept of Second Modernism, questions of aesthetic progress, and the position of music in Europe are examined from a philosophical perspective.
