Jazz und Sprache – Sprache und Jazz

“Jazz and Language, Language and Jazz”: The 5th Darmstadt Jazz Forum in October 1997 focused on the influence of jazz on literature, the influence of literature and literary aesthetics on the understanding of jazz, poetry-and-jazz projects in both the U.S. and Europe, and the adaptation of literaryliterary texts on both a small and large scale, the linguistic nature or language-like quality of jazz improvisation, and the connections between talking about music (i.e., jazz criticism) and the music itself. In addition to musicologists, literary scholars, sociologists, and journalists, musicians—and in this case, of course, writers as well—had their say.
