Jennifer Walshe

Spiel mit Identitäten

What defines a person in 2017: their origin, their religion, their Facebook profile? The search for identity in a highly networked and medialized world seems relentless.

Composer-performer Jennifer Walshe, however, does not want to commit herself. Instead, she curated a collective of alter egos, traced evidence of a perhaps bygone Irish avant-garde and announced the "New Discipline" in 2016 - a plea for experimental music-making in a constant search for new paths. Performativity moves to the center of a music that plays with semantic fragments. Where Walshe snatches snippets from their virtual worlds, alienates them and reassembles them, scope for interpretation opens up. Her often multimedia montages encourage new, open listening.
