Kinetics in Sound & Space

KiSS – Kinetics in Sound & Space: This acronym refers to the Research Training Group founded in 2019 by the partner universities HfMT Hamburg and HAW Hamburg. The research group focuses on exploring the dynamics of spatial sounds and sound spaces. The authors examine this complex of topics from various academic disciplines in a transdisciplinary manner. In doing so, artistic and scientific disciplines engage in critical discourse with and among one another around “Kinetics in Sound & Space,” thereby laying the foundation for this thematically broad volume.
This diversity encompasses different academic fields on the one hand and the (artistic) scientific work and methodology of these fields on the other. In terms of subject matter, the articles are situated in the fields of music technology/multimedia composition, media technology, musicology, and theater studies. The tension between the contributions enriches critical reflection, for example, on the relationship between artistic research and methods of historical musicology.
To conclude the research project, this book provides insight into the work of the contributors, thereby presenting a contribution to the current state of each individual research area. On the other hand, the design of the volume itself reveals itself as a form of artistic research: spatial sound and sound space are reflected here. Under the direction of Prof. Heike Grebin and Lea Sievertsen, students Leoni Roosen, Claudia Schulz, and Liad Shadmi from HAW Hamburg staged the aspects of space, movement, and sound in the design and layout.
