„… one more step on the road to understanding humanity“

Musik als kulturelles Menschheitserbe in den TV-Serien der Star Trek-Reihe

For almost six decades, the various TV series in the Star Trek series have portrayed a predominantly optimistic vision of the future of a peace-loving humanity. Alongside other cultural achievements, human music plays an important role in this, and is repeatedly used as a plot-defining component of cinematic storytelling, especially in the series of the 1980s and 1990s. Using selected examples, this study sheds light on the repertoire, performance practice and use of such music in the culture of the future. The view that music is an essential part of human education, which serves to refine character and develop empathy and communication skills, proves to be significant here.
