Perspectives for Contemporary Music in the 21st Century

The anthology emerged from a conference at Harvard University on the subject of the present and future of New Music. The essays presented here contextualize the question in an interdisciplinary way and thus unfold a variety of positions from the fields of composition, musicology, music technology, sociology, philosophy and art history.
The aim is not only to take stock of and analyze current trends in New Music and contemporary art in general. Rather, from both theoretical and individual artistic considerations, the possibilities of a contemporary music that forms a specific form of art and socially critical discourse are examined alongside the social and institutional framework conditions.
