Diversity in Jazz

Jazz is a symbol of diversity - at least that's what you might think when you look at the history of African-American music. But do we pay enough respect to this idea, especially in Europe? Is our reverence for the great jazz heroes not mere lip service when we have to realize that women are still rare in this music, which is about freedom and individuality, not to mention BIPoC (Black, Indigenous, People of Color)? Hasn't jazz in Germany long since become an established high culture that is only made and heard by an academic minority? And if this is the case, how satisfied are we with the status quo and how can we change it? These are questions to which this book seeks answers in very different approaches.
