Rolf Müller-Blagovich

„Sie sind doch hier der Geiger!“

Erinnerungen eines Konzertmeisters an die Aufbruchszeiten der Neuen Musik

Rolf Müller-Blagovich - former first concertmaster of the municipal orchestras of Münster and Essen - recalls his life before orchestral service, which took him, now 92 years old, to the centers of the new music that emerged immediately after the war amid turbulence: to Cologne, where he met Karlheinz Stockhausen, Bernd Alois Zimmermann and Wolfgang Fortner as a young student and premiered works by Zimmermann and Hans Werner Henze; and to the legendary summer courses in Darmstadt three times from 1950 onwards, where he not only met these composers again but also met the future chief theorists of Darmstadt's musical modernism, Theodor W. Adorno and Heinz-Klaus Metzger. Above all, his violin teachers - Rudolf Kolisch and Tibor Varga - were decisive for his musical career.
