The 4th Quarter of the Triad. Tony Oxley

Fünf Jahrzehnte improvisierter Musik

An unexpected reunion after 10 silent years. And the old connections stirred like the new impulses of an improvisation. On the threshold, a question: "Why don't you write my biography?" A great mountain: the drummer from Sheffield, who received instruction only in a symphonic military orchestra, who worked in pubs, hotels, and music halls, who in the 1960s, inspired by the composed music of Anton Webern and John Cage, wanted to establish free improvisation in the Joseph Holbrooke Trio, and later enjoyed success at Ronnie Scott's Club with American stars, including Bill Evans and Sonny Rollins. At the same time, he developed his own music with friends from the English Musician's Co-op under the logo "vertical music," later producing for the ECM label and creating graphic scores for the Celebration Orchestra, forming lifelong friendships with Derek Bailey and Cecil Taylor. His life journey took him from Sheffield to London, East and West Berlin, and finally to Viersen on the Lower Rhine.

Ulrich Kurth is a journalist and worked for 19 years as a music editor at WDR, serving as head of the radio jazz editorial team in the 1990s. During this time, he developed music projects with Tony Oxley.
