No. 1 · May 2026 · Print

Since 2015, the Cologne-based online magazine kaput has been writing about pop culture where it actually happens: among artists, scenes, and production conditions; between euphoria and exhaustion. In May 2026, kaput was published in print—as a magazine you keep, rather than scroll past.
168 pages · in English · €20
Edited by Thomas Venker and Linus Volkmann, who founded the magazine in 2015, Issue No. 1 brings together interviews, feature stories, essays, photo essays, and reviews—covering club culture and streaming, Manele in Romania and the Golden Pudel Club in Hamburg, and the question of how one can make music today without burning out.
The magazine deliberately avoids taking a clear-cut stance. The texts contradict one another, run parallel to one another, and intertwine—just as pop itself does. Christian Schäfer designed the magazine; the logo, collages, and cover are by Sarah Szczesny.
“the diversity and, yes, contradictions of the (pop) world”

Edited by Thomas Venker and Linus Volkmann, who founded the magazine in 2015, No. 1 brings together interviews, reportage, essays, photo series and reviews—on club culture and streaming, on manele in Romania and Hamburg’s Golden Pudel Club, and on how anyone can still make music today without being broken by it.
The issue deliberately refuses a clean line. Its texts contradict one another, run side by side, interlock—just as pop itself does. The magazine was designed by Christian Schäfer; logo, collages and cover are by Sarah Szczesny.
