Amadeo Bonaiuto

Beyond Musical Borders

A Trilogy

"Beyond Musical Borders " brings together three perspectives on an open approach to music: composition, cultural exchange, and music theory.

In *The Road Song Book*, Amadeo Bonaiuto brings together 26 of his own compositions, each available in versions for concert, B♭, and E♭ instruments. The pieces are deliberately not intended as final versions. Tempo, style, form, and interpretation remain open-ended, inviting listeners to rearrange the musical material, reharmonize it, and translate it into their own musical language.

Crossover – A Guide to Creating from the Migrant Experience explores what happens when different musical worlds collide. Drawing on Bonaiuto’s own experience as a migrant, the guide combines improvisation and composition with questions of identity, belonging, and cultural exchange. Argentine and South American musical traditions serve as a starting point for encounter, collaboration, and transformation.

In " Ear Training for Inside–Outside Playing," the focus is ultimately on listening. Exercises involving pentatonic scales, hybrid scales, modes, chromaticism, tonal shifts, creative sight-reading, rhythm, and free improvisation open the ear to tension and different harmonic colors. The goal is not to mechanically learn more scales, but to increasingly navigate intuitively between so-called “inside” and “outside” sounds.

Together, these three parts form a practical workbook for musicians, students, and teachers. *Beyond Musical Borders* views musical material not as a fixed form, but as a starting point for interpretation, experimentation, exchange, and the development of one’s own musical voice.
