Desert Plants

"Desert Plants" was a cult book in the 1970s because it brought the first information about the US composer-performer scene to Europe. Numerous examples of sheet music and complete scores enrich this insight into a time of experimentation that now needs to be brought back into our consciousness.

The book, reprinted unchanged, is dedicated to Carol Byl, who transcribed the tapes largely verbatim in order to preserve the "stream of consciousness". The cover picture was drawn by Michael von Biel.

This edition includes a CD with an audio link that provides access to all of the preserved audio recordings in restored form as MP3 files, including the now-famous phone call with La Monte Young. This allows listeners to hear the original voices from 1975—a historical document.
