Musik und gestaltete Natur

References to nature in contemporary and historical musical works are conceptually accentuated in very different ways: they can involve imitation of nature, contemplative immersion, but also sonic voyages of discovery or even "sound ecology." Nature repeatedly serves as a stimulus for unusual compositions. This volume describes some of these diverse perspectives, thereby opening up a fascinating field of study. The historical spectrum ranges from Heinrich Schütz to modern musical theater to video clips by the singer Björk. In many places, aspects of the visual arts are also included.
