Mauricio Kagel bei den Internationalen Ferienkursen für neue Musik in Darmstadt

Mauricio Kagel was undoubtedly one of the most important and fascinating figures in the world of composition during the second half of the twentieth century. As this collection demonstrates, he also exerted a decisive influence on the direction of the Darmstadt Summer Courses for New Music. This volume compiles Kagel’s most important contributions to this institution, which was pivotal to the development of new music: In addition to the complete correspondence between Kagel and the Darmstadt Summer Courses, as well as several of his lectures—presented here to the public for the first time—the volume also includes reprints of some of Kagel’s early writings. In a detailed introduction, the materials are explained, and on this basis, the relationship between the composer and the so-called “Darmstadt School” is discussed. Overall, the documents offer new insights into the life and work of one of the most fascinating composers of recent history, as well as into one of the most important institutions of new music.
