Movement to Sound, Sound to Movement

For many composers, thinking about the relationship between the acoustic and the visual, between sound and movement, has become a central question - often (but not exclusively) in connection with a post-digital perspective on new media. It is striking that the classical piano, of all things, continues to represent an aesthetic point of reference for many of these works.

The essays collected in this volume shed light on the potentials and challenges of media-integrated piano composition from three perspectives: Musicology, interpretation and composition. They show how performers deal with conceptual media settings (the requirements of which are rarely taught at music academies), what media integration means for today's composers and how audio-visual concepts shift the aesthetic spaces of experience.
