Edited by Wolfgang Gratzer.

Nähe und Distanz

Nachgedachte Musik der Gegenwart

The idea behind these two anthologies is to juxtapose self-interpretation and external interpretation. The editor was able to enlist the support of 21 contemporary composers, each of whom comments on, interprets, or presents one of their works.
Each work is juxtaposed with an external interpretation by a renowned expert, written without knowledge of the composer's self-interpretation. This allows the reader to view each work between the two mirrors of self-perception and external perception.
Similarities and differences between the parallel interpretations are intended to give the reader their own auditory and literary access to the work.
Only original contributions were published.
