Edited by Wolfgang Gratzer.

Nähe und Distanz

Nachgedachte Musik der Gegenwart

The idea behind these two anthologies is to juxtapose self-interpretation with external interpretation. The editor was able to enlist the participation of 21 contemporary composers, each of whom comments on, interprets, or presents one of their own works.
Each work is juxtaposed with an external interpretation by a recognized expert, written without knowledge of the composer’s self-interpretation. In this way, each work opens up to the reader, as it were, between the two mirrors of self-perception and external perception.
Both the similarities and the dissonances between the parallel interpretations are intended to provide the reader with their own auditory and textual approach to the work.
Only original contributions were published.
